Yunfire Inferno - Hsinchu Lantern Festival Parade

"Tianchuan Day," also known as "National Hakka Day," is based on the folklore described by Huang Rongluo, a prominent figure in the Zhudong region. It is said that on this day, Nuwa, the Chinese goddess who is believed to have created humanity, took pity on the people and repaired the hole in the sky. According to Hakka customs, "Tianchuan Day" is a day when "Heaven Mends the Sky" and people refrain from certain activities to prevent disaster. Men avoid farming for fear of causing the earth to leak water, while women refrain from sewing to avoid piercing the sky with needles.

To promote Hakka culture and acknowledge the Hakka community's contribution to Taiwan's diverse cultural landscape, the Hakka Affairs Council officially designated the 20th day of the first lunar month as "National Hakka Day" on September 10, 2010. The traditional significance of "Tianchuan Day" stems from ancient mythology, where it is believed that the water god Gonggong battled with the fire god Zhu Rong. Defeated, Gonggong knocked down one of the pillars supporting the sky, causing a large hole to form. Nuwa, in her compassion for humanity, repaired the hole with colorful stones, saving the world from disaster.

During the agricultural era, the Hakka community attached great importance to "Tianchuan Day," suspending work and enjoying leisure activities such as singing mountain songs. This day symbolizes reverence for nature and promotes environmental conservation and frugality.
